National Championship Series - Invitations and Updates

National Championship Cover Image

With the National Championship series quickly approaching, we wanted to an update on the invitation process, as well as some specific updates on events for countries with details yet to be confirmed or facing uncertainty due to local COVID health and safety guidelines.

This article will refer to information found in the National Championship 2021 article and the National Championship - Fact Sheet. Email queries that solely involve questions already answered in these articles may not always receive a response.

Invitations

90-day XP

The 90-day XP qualification period closed on October 1st (11:59pm PST).

90-day XP invites will be sent out over the course of this week.

  • NB: Players from different countries may receive their emails on different days. If necessary, priority for sending out invites will be given to events that are scheduled on earlier dates, in order to give players as much time as possible to make travel and accommodation arrangements.

Invitation Emails

Eligible players will receive an email to their GEM-registered email address with instructions on how to register for their National Championship event.

  • You must accept the invite contained within the email by October 15 (11:59pm PST) in order to be eligible to play at your National Championship.
    • No exceptions will be made to this deadline, so please check your email (and spam folder if necessary) to ensure you don't miss out.
    • We encourage all community superstars out there to spread the word within their local communities about this as well to ensure that all eligible players are aware of this process and the deadline.
  • If you are on the Qualified Player list and have not received an email by October 10, please first check your spam folder, then contact op@fabtcg.com as soon as possible if you cannot find the emailed invitation.

The list of 90-day XP Qualified Players for each country can be found on the National Championship - Fact Sheet.

  • Scroll down to the 'Qualified Players - 2021' section and click on your country's event.
    • NB: Your name will not show up on the 90-day XP Qualified Player list if you also qualified via a Road to Nationals event.

Road to Nationals (RTN)

Players who qualified via a Road to Nationals event will have received an invite to their GEM-registered email address on Friday 24 September. The deadline for accepting these invitations has now passed.

  • If you are on the Qualified Player list and did not receive an email invite, please contact op@fabtcg.com urgently.
  • Players who qualified via a RTN event will not be added to an event for any reason after Thursday 5pm PST - this is the final deadline to get in touch regarding a potentially missed invite and no exceptions will be made.

Event Updates

Legend Story Studios would like to express the respect and appreciation for the huge amount of support that player bases across the world have shown the game we all love. With that in mind, we wanted to provide an update on some National Championship events that do not yet have confirmed details, or are facing uncertainty due to COVID restrictions (and/or local health and safety guidelines).

Australia

With many regions of Australia facing some form of lockdown due to Covid-19 health and safety guidelines, unfortunately it is looking increasingly unlikely that the National Championship event for Australia is likely to go ahead in 2021. While we are constantly monitoring the ongoing situation, we have had to confront the reality that it will probably not be possible to hold the event this year in a way that includes all the different player bases across the country.

We understand this will be disappointing for a number of players, particularly as Australian Nationals ultimately had to be cancelled in 2020. While we do not have a firm date in mind at this time for when the event will be held, we are committed to running the Australian National Championship event when it is safe to do so. If this involves holding the event in early 2022 (around January-February), then it is our strong preference to take this path rather than to outright cancel the event.

Will there be a competitive event for Australia during Nationals season?

There sure will be! We are working together with our superstar TO, RC Crew Games, to organise some form of competitive webcam event to run on a weekend in October-November. Please note that this event is still in the planning stages at this time, but initial discussions have looked at a 1-2 day Classic Constructed event with some cool prizes on offer. This event will not replace the Australia National Championship.

New Zealand

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation that New Zealand is currently experiencing, it is with great sadness that we have made the decision to postpone the New Zealand National Championship event. As things currently stand, it appears highly unlikely that players from Auckland would be able to travel to the event on the scheduled date, and we feel this decision is in the best interests of the player base as a whole. We do not have a firm date in mind at this time for when the event will be held, but we would very much want to run the National Championship in November sometime if local health and safety guidelines permit us to do so.

Is there an event on at the National Championship venue in Wellington that weekend?

UPDATE:

  • Unfortunately due to health and safety guidelines and venue social distancing requirements, it appears this event may not be able to go ahead. We will still be working closely with Sushi Knight to try and organise some form of in-store Classic Constructed event(s) that weekend with some cool prizes to give players a chance to come together for 100% great games.

Absolutely! We have discussed the situation with Sushi Knight, our amazing Nationals TO, who is still very keen to put on some cool events for the players that weekend that are able to attend. We will be working to finalise the details as quickly as possible, but players can expect a mix of casual and competitive events across different formats over the course of the weekend.

We hope that players will enjoy the opportunity to come together in the flesh and blood and experience some great games with the community.

In addition, we may consider a similar competitive webcam event in New Zealand as described above for Australia (and again, this will not replace the National Championship).

Singapore

Similar to Australia and New Zealand, the National Championship event in Singapore is facing uncertainty at the moment due to Covid-19 restrictions.

No firm decision has been made regarding the Singapore National Championship at this time while we monitor the situation for further updates. If the event cannot be hold in 2021 in a way that complies with local health and safety guidelines, then, like Australia and New Zealand, we will look to schedule the event at the earliest available opportunity.

Canada

UPDATE:

The date and venue have now been confirmed - please see the Canada Nationals 2021 Fact Sheet where further updates will be provided when available.

  • Date: November 13-14
  • Venue: International Center (Toronto)

The planning process is well under way in Canada and we hope to be able to provide the player base with additional updates later this week. We appreciate your patience while we work to get the final details of the event confirmed and announced as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we are able to provide the following information in response to some questions we've received from the Canadian community:

Italy

Much like Canada, the planning process is well under way in Italy and we hope to be able to provide the player base with additional updates later this week. We appreciate your patience while we work to get the final details of the event confirmed and announced as quickly as possible.
