Recap: Skirmish Season 9, Week 1

Aug 28, 2024 Kasharn Rao

Week 1 is in the books and it looks like mostly everyone had a great time! Congratulations to those newer players who managed to win their first game, make Top 8, or even win the whole Skirmish! Lots of core memories unlocked as players reunited with their old decks in Living Legend, and lots of buzz heard across gaming tables as secrets from Rosetta are revealed. In terms of the Blitz leaderboard, Dash and Briar are so close to the finish line they can practically taste it. But will they make it through another week? Time will tell.

Let's take a look at some of our favourite moments from Week 1...

"14 players competed in our first official Skirmish event, with participants traveling from major cities across Norway and even a few from our neighboring country, Sweden. It was a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved. One of our local players secured 6th place, and the event was enjoyed by all. At Manaheim, we’re passionate about hosting Flesh and Blood events, and bringing the community together through great games."

2nd: Adam Faraj - Dash

"Players predicted that Zen would be a popular hero in this season's Blitz format, leading to many Victor Goldmanes appearing. However, today Kayo showed up in force to face off against Victor. It’s quite challenging for Victor to win against Kayo, but it didn't stop him being today’s champion. It’s truly impressive to secure victory even in a disadvantaged match-up."

1st: Huang Bo-Yang - Victor Goldmane
2nd: Chiang ShenLun - Kayo

"A big thank you to LSS for the opportunity to run this awesome event. 9 different heroes entered the fray to claim glory. But after 6 grueling rounds, Isaac emerged triumphant with his Dorinthea deck! Well done, Isaac!"

1st: Isaac Ward - Dorinthea
2nd: Nikolas Moraitis - Kayo

BLOCK 101

Block 101 - Philippines

"Rhinar wasted no time, opening with a fierce Bloodrush Bellow that led into a brutal claw strike and a devastating Show No Mercy, intimidating Blaze Firemind, her life force dwindling to a mere 3. Blaze countered with a barrage of arcane might, striking Rhinar down to 8. Rhinar, undeterred, pressed on with Barraging Beatdown into a final, crushing Swing Big. As Rhinar's attack was about to land, Blaze made a desperate last stand. She unleashed a flurry of arcane spells, casting Emeritus Scolding for 6 damage at instant speed, pitching Eye of Ophidia to amplify her power. Responding with Waning Moon, she dealt another 3 damage, drawing a card from Kindle to replenish her dwindling hand. Blaze concluded with a second Emeritus Scolding, delivering a fatal arcane strike that brought the roaring beast to his knees."

1st: Miguel Carandang - Blaze, Firemind
2nd: Joseph Lopez - Rhinar

"Our Skirmish had 19 players enjoying the Living Legend format. We had more Prisms than anyone from outside of our city could have expected. General vibe was good as our field included 5 out-of-towners. Thomas won with a Zen list that was 77 cards the same as Nova Chan's list (he wants to make sure that Nova is properly credited. Good Guy). Joshua, while waiting for Top 8, decided to whip out some Quantum Physics study to relax. It looked about as complicated as figuring out Kano Math. Players with the Bye killed time in between rounds by playing their full-power Living Legend deck against Armory Deck: Kayo. Two of them lost."

1st: Thomas Bailey Galbraith - Zen, Tamer of Purpose
2nd: Kasharn Rao - Chane, Bound by Shadow
