What a way to start Pro Quest season! Whether you were a Calling Champion, Pro Tour Finalist, or casual Armory gamer, Dromai fans took to the skies in droves this weekend to give Dragon Mommy a proper sendoff. It was such a joy to see those familiar names who had committed to the deck all these years and had taken her to such great heights of competitive play spending her last days topping Battle Hardeneds, winning Pro Quests, and generally causing a fiery ruckus!
The first round of invites to Pro Tour: Amsterdam are in the bag, but there are plenty more still to be dished out. For now, let's take a look at some of our favourite moments from Week 1...
Gameshop Sakaiya - Japan
"This was the first time our store hosted an event that is part of the competitive scene. Fortunately, we had a friend who is a Level 1 judge. He kindly guided us through the process of organizing the event and what we needed to do, and of course, as a judge, he was able to help run it, making our first competitive event a success. We also had the help of many kind players who have participated in our Armory Events. It was a great honor for us as a store to be able to share in Flesh and Blood's embarkation in Japan."
1st: Ricardo Diaz - Bravo, Showstopper
2nd: Haruka Sonoda - Dromai, Ash Artist
Unbox Greenhills - Philippines
"We had 64 players at the Unbox Pro Quest. The meta was dominated by Ninjas, specifically Katsu, inspired by the recent success of Pudding Tam. Despite the field crawling with Ninjas, there were two Dromai players who managed to reach Top 8. Unfortunately they only got as far as the semi-finals before bowing out. At the end of the day, two of the best players in the Philippines duked it out for the championship - Justin Cu (Victor Goldmane) and Andre See (Dorinthea). Justin came out on top to claim the Gold Foil and the invite to Pro Tour: Amsterdam. Players also signed a Goodbye Dromai postcard to celebrate the ascension of the Empress into Living Legend. The shop will be sending the actual postcard to Legend Story Studios HQ."
1st: Justin Cu - Victor Goldmane, High and Mighty
2nd: Andre Ryan See - Dorinthea Ironsong
Sneep Gaming - United States
"All heroes in Heavy Hitters were represented at this Pro Quest. Our local scene showed up, but we also had many people who traveled far, from Washington, Idaho, and even Nevada! For additional play space the store uses the bakery attached to the building, so we made sure that all attendees got free cookies and snacks throughout the day. The whole day had very high and positive energy."
1st: Zack Covington - Maxx 'The Hype' Nitro
2nd: Charles Martin - Victor Goldmane, High and Mighty
Chupacabra Games - United States
"Our judge Aaron did an amazing job helping run our event. The software was very easy to use and we were able to start the tournament in a timely manner. The players were all amazing and respectful. Our finals had a crowd gather to see if Victor could overcome Viserai while the Runeblade bided his time and won with over 50 Runechants! Players enjoyed tense but fun games all day. We even got some of our players from other games interested in Flesh and Blood Social Play Events!"
1st: Adam Cook - Viserai, Rune Blood
2nd: Devin McAtee - Victor Goldmane, High and Mighty
Raid'n'Trade - Germany
"Last Saturday we completed a Pro Quest hat trick! It was a great event with 46 players fighting their way to the top. This was one of the last events where it was possible to play Dromai and create fearless dragons. There were other strong heroes in the meta, such as Dorinthea, Kayo, Katsu, and Azalea, but in the end Victor clashed to the top and left all other heroes behind. Congrats to the winner, and thanks to all competitors. We enjoyed a great tournament. We hope to see you again at the next one!"
1st: Etienne Barioulet - Victor Goldmane, High and Mighty
2nd: Christian Hauck - Dorinthea Ironsong
