This weekend, the Calling series arrives in Asia for the first time! In partnership with our friends at Fayble, the Calling: Taiwan will feature a prize pool of USD20,000 and Professional Tournament Invitations (PTIs) and Golden Cold Foil Legendary prize cards!
The two day event will be streamed live through Fayble on their YouTube channel in Mandarin with Taiwan National champion Limbo and Liao Pei Tung in the commentary booth. Then for the Top 8, content creator DanDan will join the team.
Flesh and Blood content creators and community superstars DM Armada and Matt DiMarco (aka Flake) will be casting English commentary for the Top 8 at their Twitch and YouTube.
Top 8 commentary and stream coverage begins in both languages at around 12pm Taiwan time, 4pm NZT and midnight EDT Sunday, April 24.
Today we catch up with some of Taiwan's top players and content creators as we count down to this historic event, the Calling Taiwan!
聶寶 NieBao - Content Creator
When did you first start playing FAB?
I started in Monarch. I wanted to play Runeblade at the beginning, but I pulled a Phantasmal Footsteps at the end of an unboxing. So, I changed my mind and played Prism.
從第四彈開始玩，原本想要玩闇影魔劍，沒想到抽到幻術腳就開始玩幻術這個職業。
What do you enjoy most about the game?
I love making adjustments to my deck depending on who the opponent's hero is. There’re lots of opportunities within the 80 card deck to adapt.
會依據對方的職業更換自己的備牌構築。牌組的主題性也很靈活，整體來說80張牌的空間有無限可能。
What advice would you give to new Flesh and Blood players?
I recommend learning the details of the heroes in Blitz format at the beginning. Not only do you have less health in the game, which makes for quick games, you don't need to gather as many cards either. You can challenge the Classic Constructed format once you’re well-experienced in Blitz.
一開始可以先從閃擊戰瞭解職業特色, 主要是血量少，而且裝備和牌組要求比經典構築來得簡單。等準備好了再挑戰經典構築。
What are you excited about for Taiwan’s first ever Calling?
I’m very excited because this is the second big event of FAB I’ve ever participated in. It was a bit sad about getting eliminated in the draft at Nationals. I'll get myself well-prepared for the Calling Taiwan.
非常期待，這是我準備參加的第二個大型賽事。因為之前不幸敗在輪抽的賽制，這次會好好準備自己的構築去打好每一場Match。
What do you think will be unique about the Calling Taiwan compared to other Calling events around the world?
Due to COVID-19, it’s very difficult for players from other countries to come to Taiwan. We still hope we can participate in the Calling on the global stage without any inconveniences in the future.
原本這是國際型的賽事，不過因為疫情的緣故，其他國家的人來參加會變比較困難。還是希望未來可以沒有隔閡的去參加各地區的calling。但依然會珍惜每次calling的機會。
What deck will you be playing for the Calling Taiwan?
I planned to take Prism at the beginning. However, I changed my mind and have been preparing with Runeblade because I realized that it seems I’d be little bit disadvantaged against Ninja and aggro builds by using Prism.
原本會想準備幻術師來應戰。不過我發現自己對上忍者和快攻職業會小劣勢。有考慮在賽前準備元素魔劍，還有半個月的時間可以練習，會再看狀況做變化。
Who’s your favorite hero and why?
Prism would be my choice. I’m very fascinated with the art and design of character and the atmosphere of Solana.
我本身最喜歡幻術的英雄。造型很漂亮，而且我喜歡教會和光明的設計感。
What part of Rathe would you like to visit next?
The Ninja’s Village, Misteria.

Do you think the Taiwan metagame will be different from US and others?
The metagame is very diverse in the Taiwan community. We all predicted an increase in play of Bravo, Star of the Show but were a little surprised about Prism. Now it's time to figure out builds to counter Prism.
台灣區的Meta其實都很多元 原本會以為新的元素守護者在台灣會很多，反而是有幻術在克制

Which hero is your pick to win?
As with the previous questions, I would pick Prism or Runeblade. I could make an official pick after analyzing match win percentages just before the Calling.

Who’s your favorite hero and why?
Katsu, the Wanderer. He's the one I chose for my first hero at the beginning. I was fascinated by its variety of deck builds and attacks.

What part of Rathe would you like to visit in real life?
I’d like to visit Aria for its beautiful scenery and harmonious atmosphere.

Do you think the Taiwan metagame will be different from US or others?
Probably. The environment still seems to be dominated by Viserai, Prism, and Starvo. However, Starvo might see a decrease in his appearance rate, cause there’re lots of Prism players in the Taiwan FAB community.
環境應該還是以Viserai, Prism, Starvo 為領導主軸，但因為台灣Prism數量眾多，可能會讓Starvo 玩家討不到便宜而減少使用率。

I started in Welcome to Rathe. I was the first FAB player in Taiwan.

Just like role-playing games, Flesh and Blood is an immersive experience.

What advice would give new players to Flesh and Blood?
Try to play every hero before making your choice and committing to a main one. Get rid of any feelings of regret from spending money on building decks which aren't actually your favorite.

What are you excited about for Taiwan’s first ever Calling?
I have been looking forward to this event because this significant tournament will catch Taiwan TCG players’ eyes and get their attention!

What do you think will be unique about the Calling Taiwan compared to other Calling events around the world?
Due to the specific build of Prism I developed, Star Bravo decks have no chance to win the championship. Besides, the metagame between Taiwan and other countries is quite different.
由於我開發了一套PRISM套牌，因此台灣的STAR BRAVO其實一直無法取得冠軍。台灣的賽場分布也與其他國家不一樣，相信會給世界看到台灣的操作高端水平！
What deck would you be play for TC Taiwan if you were competing?
I’m afraid I’m going to pass on this event for now. I've decided to give the chance to those players who haven't had a chance to become a champion before. I know my participation might cause some low aspirations for players to take part in the event, so I'm giving up the chance to win the championship.
我不會參賽，我想把獲勝的機會讓給沒有拿過冠軍的玩家，我十分清楚我的強度會影響玩家的參賽意願以及獲勝機會。
Who’s your favorite hero and card and why?
Prism would be my favorite hero. As well as her flexible gameplan and diverse ways to build her, I love her character too.

Same as Liao, I love the incredible scenery of Aria, too.

Do you think the Taiwan metagame will be different from US and others? Why
I figured out a build of Prism to against Starvo...you might have seen how low the winning rate of Starvo was. Not even one Starvo won a ProQuest in Taiwan.
我在台灣開發了一套PRISM套牌針對BRAVO，導致台灣的BRAVO勝率極度低落PROQUEST一次冠軍都沒有取得，因此環境應該還是以Viserai, Prism, Starvo 為領導主軸。三強鼎立。
Which hero is your pick to win?
I pick Prism, Sculptor of Arc Light without a doubt.

I’m excited for the moment the Calling Taiwan Champion is born, because that means they are the best player in Taiwan.

What do you think will be unique about the Calling Taiwan compared to other Calling events around the world?
Due to the Prism builds by Limbo, the Taiwanese National champion, the win percentage of Starvo is very low. The Taiwan Top 8 decklists are quite different to ones seen in other metagames. Viserai, which might be a good counter to Prism, will probably see a lot of play at the Calling Taiwan.

Who’s your favorite hero and card and why?
Kano, Dracai of Aether is my favorite hero. He’s pretty fancy.

What part of Rathe would you like to visit next and why?
Similar to the previous question, I’d like to visit Kano’s hometown of Volcor because he’s my favorite.

I hope so. It’ll be good to see the different metas across different communities at worldwide competitions in the future.
