Premier Play Announcement (early 2024)

15th Dec 2023 Organized Play Team

We promised you the GOLD standard for TCGs with a whopping $1,500,000 USD Pro Play Circuit in 2024. We plan to deliver exactly what the crowds are clamoring for - a global stage for players to work up from Armory Events all the way to the big leagues, and to make bank while doing so. Not one, but TWO Pro Tours, 18 Callings, and 50 Battle Hardeneds! We’re overjoyed to announce the first round of upcoming Premier events, including everything that was revealed at World Championship: Barcelona!

Enter the Deathmatch Arena at Calling: Queenstown, kicking off alongside the World Premiere of Heavy Hitters and a once-in-a-lifetime Celebrational featuring all your favourite FAB faces! No magic, no machines, just muscle - ALL WEEKEND LONG!

The Celebrational takes place on January 17th-18th at Skyline Queenstown. Our list of esteemed invited guests will throw down in a round robin tournament spread across multiple formats. The rest of the community is warmly welcomed to come along and spectate the playoffs!

If you're heading down to Queenstown early, grab a gondola ticket and watch the action! The event will also be live streamed from our YouTube channel for those of you who can't make it!

Then it's time to pack your bags and see the world, as the Calling lands in Hartford, Liverpool, Warsaw, and Minneapolis! Calling: Minneapolis kicks off alongside the United States National Championship, which marks the beginning of National Championship season! APAC players should save the date from April 5th-7th as the Calling returns to South East Asia (more details to come in early January).

Five new Battle Hardened events are landing on the map in Cincinnati, Manila, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Atlanta! Keep your eyes on the prize as many more Battle Hardeneds will be announced early next year.

We also have a number of updates to share with you regarding the Premier Organized Play program.

Longer seasons for National Championships, Road to Nationals, and Pro Quest

We are expanding the season length for qualifying events and National Championships in 2024 from 3 weeks to 4 weeks to reduce the amount of overlap with other events. While this change won't completely remove all conflicts, we hope it gives players more flexibility to travel the world to play in Callings and Battle Hardeneds without having to sacrifice the chance to compete in their National Championship or local qualifying events (or vice versa).

Event Season Dates (2024)
Road to Nationals February 17th - March 10th
Pro Quest Season 5 April 13th - May 4th
United States National Championship + Calling: Minneapolis June 14th - 16th
National Championships (rest of world) June 21st - July 7th
Pro Quest Season 6 October 5th - 27th

Qualifying for Pro Tour: Amsterdam

When Pro Tour qualification was first established, several regions were still onboarding, and the history of global rated matches was very small. Now as we enter our fifth year, hundreds of thousands of rated matches have taken place. We have decided to reevaluate Pro Play qualification, and bring it more in line with ELO rankings.

Pro Tour: Amsterdam qualification will consist of:

  • Pro Quest Season 5
  • Top 75 Total ELO Rating
  • PTI Redemption and Transfer

In early 2024, prior to the start of Pro Quest Season 5, we will publish the Total ELO Rating leaderboard, which has been calculated from the inception of rated matches. Simply put, it is your primary ELO ranking, regardless of format. The cutoff for Total ELO Rating-based qualification will take place on May 7th, 2024, directly following the end of Pro Quest Season 5.

What does this mean for XP? While XP may still be used as a tool for qualification in newer regions, it will not have a broad impact on Pro Play qualification following Pro Tour: Los Angeles. In the future there will be social achievements attached to XP, and it will continue to be accrued and displayed in your Player Profile. Further details about XP will be shared in 2024.

Calling Formats

Classic Constructed is widely regarded as the highest standard of Flesh and Blood gameplay. It has always been the backbone of Pro Play and we intend to keep it at the forefront. However, with new growth comes new opportunities, and we wanted to talk about why you're going to see more Limited format Callings in 2024.

Something we haven't been able to do before is showcase a proper limited season, featuring a brand new set with thematically powerful heroes and unique mechanics. With 18 Callings in 2024 we finally have the chance to properly feature these limited formats at the Pro Play level. This doesn't mean that Limited is cutting a piece out of the Classic Constructed pie - the most represented format in Callings will still be Classic Constructed. Now that there's more events on the table than ever before we have a great opportunity to bring you more of what you love, as well as a wide range of gameplay to please the many different kinds of players out there.

You can expect to see the following range of formats across Callings in 2024:

Format % of Calling Main Events
Classic Constructed 50-60%
Limited (Sealed Deck / Booster Draft) 30-35%
Other (Blitz, Team, Living Legend) 10-15%

The stage is set for the Heavy Hitters season to knock your socks off, and we cannot wait for players to enter the Deathmatch Arena, kicking off with the World Premiere and Calling: Queenstown!
