Recap: Calling: Phuket

Apr 10, 2024 Kasharn Rao

Nothing quite like the feeling of sand between your toes as you relax on the beach after trapping someone in an Arc Light Sentinel loop!

Players vacationed in Phuket last weekend, taking a stab at $10,000 USD in the Calling! With the dust settled from Pro Tour: Los Angeles, and Dromai's last days edging closer, the metagame is ripe for a certain notorious Light Illusionist to cast her glow upon the world of Rathe once more.

It's safe to say that Flesh and Blood's first Destination Calling was a massive success, allowing players to scratch their Classic Constructed itch before unwinding in one of the most beautiful locations on earth.

Let's check out what went down...

The Calling

More than 200 players rocked up to test their strength, with everyone's favourite one-armed Brute leading the pack. But Brute Fest was interrupted by the fan-favourite Prism, Awakener of Sol! After a slow start she is now primed to fight, equipped with an army of angels and her new staff from Heavy Hitters! We got to witness the terrifying Arc Light Sentinel loop live on stream, a deadly tool in the Solanian bookworm's arsenal. Though the loop can be countered or disrupted, it's definitely one to prepare your sideboard for in the upcoming Pro Quest: Amsterdam.

But the hero of the day was young Brodie Spurlock, a powerhouse of the Pro Play Circuit, finally cinching his first Calling win with Azalea! Congratulations to Brodie, and to the rest of our Top 8 competitors!

More than 90 players doubled down on Sunday for another bout in the ring, $2,000 USD just within their grasp. Killing two birds with one arrow, Azalea claimed another win, cementing herself as a prominent threat in a metagame swarming with Brutes, Warriors, and rich kids on horses.

While the Calling raged on, our two maidens of dusk had their own excursion to the beach! Brilliant creativity showcased by Touran and Mochi, but I imagine for Vynnset the sand is course, rough, and gets everywhere.

The gorgeous Merlion Sigil of Solace returns, placed into the eager hands of heroes willing to throw down in Phuket's jam-packed schedule of side events! Congratulations to Nova Chan for taking home a Gold Foil in Commoner with Iyslander. The Dumpster Dive fans out there are dying to see your decklist!

It wouldn't be a holiday without a fully catered lunch! After getting down and dirty in the arena, there's nothing better than sitting down to a merry feed among friends. Never say we don't look after our players!

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to our amazing coverage and casting team, judges, staff, Legendary Games Distribution, and everyone else who helped make this next leg in the Pro Play Circuit possible!

Calling: Warsaw is our next stop, see you there!
