Sunday - The Finals

Spain vs Spain. Enigma vs Enigma. Sunflower Samurai vs Value Vampires. Pablo Pintor vs Max Dieckmann.

P1177814

Pablo begins by passing priority, a sensible start to the Illusionist mirror. Max's Miraging Metamorph is popped by Pablo, who follows up with Command and Conquer. Both players are exercising nuclear levels of caution, testing the waters, probing for more information. Max initiates a Truce. This isn't a race, it's a careful negotiation.

P1177835

Pablo lands a 10,000 Year Reunion, the first big bomb of the game. Max responds with Levels of Enlightenment into the first transcend of the game. Pablo's own Levels of Enlightenment draws first blood. But what's this? Max has his own 10K ready to go. Now the ball is rolling.

P1177859

Pablo slams Max with Phantasmaclasm, ripping his Manifestation of Miragai from the hand. The impact of how much of a bullet Pablo has dodged is felt on Max's turn where he double-transcends into Sacred Art, amassing an army of Spectral Shields.

P1177883

Pablo is running behind on life and Max is threatening to push him even further. He counters with his own Sacred Art, a true mirror in every sense of the word. With both players controlling a field of Spectral Shields, the trading begins. However, this exchange of the spirits is cut short when Pablo drops Manifestation of Miragai, EXACTLY what he needs to make a comeback.

Max is the first to Traverse the Universe, and rightly so, because the alarm bells are ringing, he needs to clear this Miragai yesterday. He brings out his own Miragai, into Phantasmaclasm, threatening to rob Pablo of that crucial tempo he needs. He's not going to let Pablo walk away with a second Pro Tour win for free.

P1177829

"I hope I draw a popper," Pablo murmurs, as Phantasmaclasm tucks away a card from his hand. He takes a deep breath. He draws...

P1177900

A glint of blood red. With a laugh of disbelief, he slams the Command and Conquer on the table, popping the Phantasmaclasm, and causing the entire venue to erupt.

P1177906

P1177905

"Good player..." Max says with a chuckle.

Pablo gets to swing in again with Miragai. Max can't catch a break. He sighs and lets go of his own Miragai. He'll need another answer to Pablo's Miragai, and he'll need it ASAP.

Pablo sidesteps Max's Spectral Shield, and attacks with his own, followed by Miragai, which Max elects to take. The ball is in Pablo's court now. He can smell blood.

P1177932

Command and Conquer comes down, taking out Max's own Command and Conquer in arsenal. The mirror is starting to crack. On Max's turn, Pablo blocks with his own Traverse the Universe, setting up a 6-card hand. He's put Max on the backfoot, but now is the critical junction in which he needs to push harder and seal the deal.

P1177924

Max makes a valiant attempt to threaten the Inner Chi in Pablo's hand with The Weakest Link. Pablo covers it... swings in with Miragai... Max declares no blocks...

Astral Etchings juices Miragai to an absurd level of power, more than enough to deal lethal damage, more than enough to win the Pro Tour.

Pablo Pintor. The man. The myth. The legend. The first Pro Tour Champion. The first to Top 8 three Pro Tours. The first to win two. The GOAT.

Sunday - Dumpster Dive

Looking for some hard hitting action for the low price of a few pennies? More than 90 people did today, completely dwarfing past Commoner Gold Foil events for the second record-breaking Flesh and Blood tournament of the weekend.

P1166665

The metagame was heavy with Enigma and Ira, centered around the all-powerful Reality Refractor and the shiny new Blade Beckoner equipment from The Hunted.

P1166670

The people who play Commoner... LOVE Commoner. From the competitive players who actually grind the format in the hopes of sweeping up a Gold Foil, to newer players trying out their first high octane tournament at an affordable price, to chefs like this guy who rock up with the most unhinged soup in the universe (Iyslander with Crucible of Aetherweave).

P1166741

Taking home the Gold with Enigma in a tense final match vs Ira, Crimson Haze is Jack Raven. Congratulations, mate!

Sunday - Cosplay Contest

Off we ride to the main stage where Rathe's most talented tailors have treated us to strange and spectacular performances...

Cosplay Conest - London

Judged by our passionate team of experts...

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises was a salty pirate captain demanding his treasure map from his assistant known only as "Map Boy".

Map Boy of course, turned out to be none other than James White himself, meekly shuffling towards the stage to hand over the map, fearful of his captain's ire.

Saturday - Date Night

Here at Legend Story Studios we're all about that hard hitting journalism. So we asked our community the BIG question: Which hero would you take on a date, and where in Rathe would you go?

P1155377

"I'd take Victor, because he would pay. That would work out quite well. We'd go to Everfest, I'd go explore the forest for a while, go for a nice little walk maybe, try and avoid the meeps."

P1155328

"Dorinthea. She was my first (deck). We'd go to the Demonastery maybe, I think she wants to go there."

P1155385

"I would say Bravo, because he's kind of flashy and he's a showstopper. We'd go to the Maldives."

P1155424

"It has to be Kano. He has the kind of vibe that he would take ME on a date and he would take me somewhere very nice, very opulent. He seems like he knows all the good spots. I like the vibe of Aria, the Everfest carnival could be good. I'd enjoy that, he might not enjoy that though, to be fair. He might want to take me somewhere in Volcor."

P1155310

"It would have to be Chane. That bondage gear is just quite something. I think that when I go for a dinner with him, he's gonna... I don't know, man. It's gonna be pretty wild. We're going to the Demonastery all the way, if I'm feeling a little bit fruity for dessert I might go to the Savage Lands."

Saturday - Day 2

182 players remain. But only 8 will square off for the chance to be crowned Pro Tour Champion.

P1155180

Heading into the final Classic Constructed leg, Andrew Cook is the only undefeated player remaining, having 'Cooked' two Booster Drafts with a Dagger-focused Arakni, Web of Deceit build. He's now a dagger's throw away from locking in a spot in Top 8.

Shit just got real. The top tables are STACKED with former Champions and Top 8'ers, just a plethora of accomplished players who are CRAVING that lucrative Top 8 position.

So many iconic matchups have formed at this critical stage of the competition. Arthur Trehet is hoping to be the first in the world to win two Flesh and Blood Pro Tours. But he'll have to go through Allen Lau, who has consistently made top tables at almost every Pro Tour and World Championship in recent years.

P1155237

Pablo Pintor, also looking to run it back from his first Pro Tour win in New Jersey, facing off against New Zealand's own Matt Rogers, who looks like he's feeling the pressure. Pablo is the GOAT, but I gotta back the home team here. Although, the only reason us Kiwis haven't been cleaning up the rest of you lot is most of our best players are busy making the game good, so consider yourselves lucky!

P1155240

Former Pro Tour and World Championship Top 8'ers Andrew Rothermel and Aaron Shantz find themselves versing each other. Everything's on the line and they're both looking to Leave No Witnesses, but despite the high stakes, everyone's having a great time playing games together in the Flesh and Blood.

P1155193

Bartosz Ziemba. The only player to make the finals of TWO Pro Tours, is back and out for blood. If he makes the Top 8, he will have the whole world rallying behind him. A few seats down, Rob Catton has bubbled back up to the surface and is carrying the torch for the United Kingdom.

P1155260

It's all to play for...

Saturday - What's In the Box?

Day 2 of the Pro Tour is in full swing, and players are giving the second Booster Draft everything they have. We'll have a Day 2 metagame breakdown for you once Classic Constructed rounds are underway, so don't close that tab!

At this point we are all well and truly accustomed to the fire and fury of the Pro Tour, but today we begin instead... with a little chaos.

P1144068

Sure, you've played Sealed Deck before. Open 8 packs, build a deck of 30 cards, choose your hero and weapon(s), prepare for battle!

But have you ever played FULL BOX Sealed Deck? Open an entire box of The Hunted, build an incomprehensible nightmare pile of cards, proceed to commit war crimes!

This is just one of many unique ways to play Flesh and Blood at a World Tour, and let me tell you as someone who played a Full Box Arakni, Web of Deceit deck that consisted entirely of 10 blues and 20 Dagger Attack Reactions, it's a completely unhinged experience.

P1144080

Just look at that mess! There's nothing more satisfying then reverting to your basic animal instincts and ripping open pack after pack, amassing a mountain of wrappers without a care in the world (although I should point out that paper Flesh and Blood booster wrappers are recyclable and when the carnage is over you should always be a 'Tidy Kiwi' and clean up).

And the pulls, Sol have mercy! Cold Foils, Marvels, Legendaries, Fableds, chase Majestics! Sometimes you not only just straight up get an immediate refund on your box, you go home with EV that is so off the charts that Gravy Bones is knocking at your door the next day. Sometimes you're built different enough to open both Shelter from the Storm and Command and Conquer from the same box! Sometimes you're just that good.

Friday - Day 1 Wrap

The Draconic ashes have settled, and at the end of Day 1 we have 2 undefeated players:

  • Andrew Cook, Georgia, United States - Prism, Awakener of Sol
  • Charles Dunn, California, United States - Aurora, Shooting Star

P1144494

It’s been an unbelievable day for Flesh and Blood. If you haven’t had a chance to catch the incredible games on our Live Stream, make sure to catch up on all the highlights, such as the moment during a showdown between two World Champions, where a Crown of Providence draw provided Alex Argyriou an Arc Lightning off the top of his deck to pair with the Flicker Wisp in hand.

Or watching Slippy absolutely COOK, with Michael Hamilton using Mask of Perdition enabling Art of Desire to draw 2 cards and gain 2 life (who needs Tomes???), and later Xavier McLean making one hell of a comeback against Pablo Pintor with a sick Codex of Bloodrot into Infiltrate backed by Spike with Bloodrot.

How about Charles Dunn taking a hit to become unmarked in order to play a Lay Low against Alexander Vore, overtaking the draft pod and ending at a 8-0 finish?

Will our Undefeateds go all the way tomorrow? Or will they fall victim to the old curse of rising to the top Day 1, only to be overtaken at the last second? There is a web of dangerous names lurking right beneath them, such as previous Pro Tour Champions Pablo Pintor and Arthur Trehet, as well as Premier Top 8'ers Bartosz Ziemba, Aaron Shantz, Sam Sutherland, and more. Leading the charge into Day 2 for the home team is Shahmir Samee. Who will make it to the top?

There’s only one way to find out…

P1144289

Friday - Draft

Players are deep into the draft portion of the Pro Tour. This is where the knives really come out. The Hunted is a very dynamic set, with three heroes sharing Draconic and Hybrid card-pools, and a theme centered around marking, dagger flicking and retrieval, and just SO many attack reactions. Let's get inside the head of a master drafter at the top table, Alexander Vore.

The Pro Tour players have definitely put in the hard yards and it shows in their strategies - some like to force Cindra or Fang, others are looking to squeeze wins out of lethal dagger reactions, many have grinded enough drafts to be confident going into any of the three heroes depending on the vibe at the table.

P1144239

There's so much depth to this set, and as an Arakni main I can confidently say it's my personal favourite. Flesh and Blood is a unique TCG to draft because every set has the potential to be wildly different in terms of signalling, forcing, staying open, pivoting (successfully), deckbuilding, and final in-game execution.

P1144253

For those who want to dive even deeper, check out Alexander's draft picks below.

Friday - Hemal's Big Score

In case you were wondering who picked up the highly coveted Prism statue... congrats Hemal Patel, hope it looks great in the office!

P1144062

Friday - Sink Below, Innit?

One of the big allures of the Flesh and Blood World Tour are the exclusive promos. Special versions of fan favourite staples that show you were here, bling out your deck, flex at your Armory, or let's be honest, even flip for a decent amount of cash if you want.

Sink Below is one of the most iconic Flesh and Blood cards of all time. Settle in for a brief history lesson.

Released in the first ever booster set Welcome to Rathe in 2019, Sink Below quickly grew into a competitive staple played in every deck, and remains one of the absolute must-have commons even to this day.

That's it. History lesson over. I did say it would be brief.

Anyway, the Brits are lucky enough to get the first ever Alternate Art of this historical bread and butter beauty. Those who made the long trek here have been rewarded, with many tea-related puns to be heard at the side event tables.

P1133876

Coming together in the Flesh and Blood through the common language of great games. That's what it's all about, folks. I know I probably sound like a broken record, but to me, this mantra never gets old. The world can be a very lonely place in this day and age, but having a warm community of like-minded people, regularly bonding over a shared social activity, constantly feeding that dopamine loop by playing Sink Below from your arsenal just when your opponent thinks they've got lethal - it can make life so much better.

P1133894

If you're feeling a little envious, it's never too late to find out what all the fuss is about. Maybe you'll join us in Singapore and make some new friends, go home with those tasteful Beach Day promos. Flesh and Blood is here to stay, so just because you missed the boat this time doesn't mean there isn't a big international family of gamers waiting to welcome you at the next one.

P1133878

Friday - The Killers

What does it mean to battle it out on Flesh and Blood's biggest stage? The best of the best share their thoughts.

Friday - Day 1

Pro Tour: London has kicked off with a staggering amount of players - 523, making this the largest Pro Tour in Flesh and Blood history.

P1133763

Here is your metagame breakdown for Day 1:

Meta london day 1

As expected, Aurora is the deck to beat, having consistently performed exceptionally across multiple events worldwide. She is no longer a rising star. She is the star.

Behind her we have Enigma and Florian, both powerful heroes with strong gameplans into a variety of decks. A lot of Pro Tour competitors have opted to play Florian to get an edge over Aurora, at the risk of a dicey Enigma matchup. This push and pull will form our standings that lead into Booster Draft later today.

Nuu, Zen, and Vynnset each have significant showings, using their unique gameplans to prey on particular matchups. Nuu is hoping to queue up into aggro and dodge Illusionists, Zen is looking to tame Assassins, and Vynnset has crazy tools into many of the best decks.

Interestingly, Arakni, Marionette has crawled out of the woodwork to make their mark in higher numbers than anticipated. Even more than Slippy, who has had many Top 8 showings this season, and was expected to be the next most represented Assassin after Nuu.

We have some absolutely titanic Round 1 pairings, from previous Pro Tour Champion Shoma Yamamura who has managed to find himself at the table versus one of the best Aurora players in the room - Pudding Tam.

P1133620

Eyes will also be on the 2024 World Champion Grzegorz Kowalski, who will no doubt be feeling the pressure of living up to his #blessed win at Osaka late last year.

P1133600

The United Kingdom has rocked up to defend their territory. Household names Alex Chițu and Jacob Clements will be fighting fiercely to hold onto their rank on the World Tour leaderboard, while longtime pro Rob Catton is probably thinking "Another day, another Top 8."

P1133528

P1133517

P1133557

Once you join the World Tour, it's in your blood (and flesh?). You'll play against the best of the best until it's no longer terrifying - it's just Thursday. Time marches on, but connections made in the Flesh and Blood are timeless. For example, here we see two iconic Dromai players, Mara Faris and Nick Butcher, facing off in the modern age.

P1133577

Nerves are high. There's a lot on the line. It's time to lock in.

Thursday - Keynote

Yeah okay... I might just go ahead and buy some boxes of High Seas now...

Thursday - The Hunt Begins

The time has come to pledge your fealty.

Your contract is to eliminate 15 known threats to the Dynasty. Some may be known enemies, others may pose as allies, or even strangers in passing. Do not let your guard down, for deceit lurks around every corner.

You have two days to complete your mission. Should you be successful, you will be accepted into the Children of the Dragon, and lead our elite forces into the Spider's Lair. Here you will encounter three prolific and highly dangerous targets. Not much is known about these individuals, they may be entirely unfamiliar to you, or they may take on the appearance of foes you have encountered before. Whatever happens, you must take out each target, one by one. Leave none alive.

Bring glory to the Fallen Dragon and the Royal Court will reward you beyond your wildest dreams. Ride forth, loyal servant. Show Volcor's enemies your wrath, your fire, your vengeance.

Let the Hunt begin...
